Facelift for Dippy!

Working closely with the senior curator of Carnegie Museum, Gretchen Anderson, it took almost two years to research the process of stripping the anti-graffiti coating off and resurface the museum’s prize possession Carnegii Dipolodocus with a renewed skin that would protect him for many years to come. As Dippy was pressure washed and stripped of his outer layer of coating, seams were revealed where he was put together which had to be meticulously and artistically remolded with a substrate to resemble Dippy’s corregated skin. Many marine coatings were applied which were donated by Pittsburgh PpG. Markantone craftsmen worked for over 3 weeks as Dippy’s followers on his very own facebook page continued to look forward to his new reveal!
